GSC Justice, Equity, Diversity,  and Inclusion Statement

At the Green Schools Campaign, we acknowledge that addressing climate change is impossible without first addressing pressing issues like racial, economic, and social injustices that are present in our world. Because of the systems of oppression put in place by colonizers, Black, Indigenous, & People of Color have been disproportionately impacted by climate change’s effects, and their voices have often gone unheard. This is unacceptable. At the Green School’s Campaign, we must and will work actively to dismantle systems of oppression in ourselves, our own organization and beyond by embracing the principles of Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) outlined in this statement. Furthermore, we aim to provide grassroots organizers around the world with the tools to create change in their own communities, with the Green Schools Campaign as support. Below are a list of our actions to embrace the JEDI principles:

We are a global organization that:

  • Is working towards a team that involves a diverse group of different genders, sexual orientations, races, ethnicities, nationalities, religions, language, education, career socio-economic situations, abilities, and other identities.

  • Acknowledges our individual privilege and uses it to fight with oppressed groups.

  • Highly prioritizes making sure everyone is welcomed, actively listened to, and accepted.

  • Works to create a safe community where anyone can celebrate their authentic selves.

  • Recognizes that we all have biases, prejudices, and assumptions, and works to actively fight back against these.

  • Embraces compassion, kindness, and love, along with inclusion, representation, equity, opportunity, freedom, and equality.

  • Creates a safe space to embrace identity and encourages direct communication and dialogues.

  • Listens to, involves, and advocates with underrepresented voices.

  • Continues to learn and grow! We are FAR from perfect, and we are continually learning and growing. This is a living/changing document so we will continue to update.
