Hello everybody, and Happy Pride Month! While we are a climate-focused group, we want it to be clear that we completely support all people, no matter their gender, sexual orientation, or race. The climate crisis primarily impacts low-income and BIPOC communities, and the GSC is dedicated to ending this. We are working with region coordinators who are helping convert schools and students in diverse communities. The Green Schools Campaign is international, after all! Our region coordinator, Jelena Collins, who works with schools in the Midwest region, had this to say: “We have a very diverse team and schools from all over the world, both of which allow us to make collective decisions that incorporate a variety of perspectives.”
As the GSC is completely inclusive of all people, we have a JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) team in our campaign that is exclusively working to break down hate, stigma, and the oppression of PoC and the LGBTQIA+ community. You can find our JEDI statement on our website, greenschoolsnow.org. Before joining the GSC team, members must sign our Commitment Agreement, where we clearly state that racism, homophobia, and transphobia are completely unacceptable.
